The home garden is an island of tranquility amidst the madness of the world
1. The world is overflowing with fear and anxiety - for objective and far-fetched reasons. In an era of information fakes, empty shelves of buckwheat in stores, general indifference to precautions and scary headlines in the media, one can easily get neurosis if one is not able to find support in simple and pleasant things. Being in self-isolation at my dacha near Moscow, I realized that it was time to fully devote myself to my new hobby - homestead gardening and creating a home greenhouse.
And today I want to invite you to a little walk through my home garden, which day after day pleases me with positive changes. I already have several varieties of pelargoniums bloomed, poinsettias bloomed later than expected, but blushed madly beautifully, a lemon bloomed for the first time and then - and gave an ovary, as well as a corner with interesting plants - marantha of various varieties. Below you will find many photos showing the inhabitants of my garden.
Flowers and books give me - the owner of a travel company, which for certain reasons is experiencing bad times, hope for the future and give me precious peace of mind! So, I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities that quarantine gives us and immerse yourself in the peacefulness of a truly homesteading hobby - gardening. How are you spending these days? Gardeners, how's your progress? Share photos of your green corners in the comments!
By the way: this year I decided to take the issue of beautifying my garden seriously and set myself the goal of creating a small English park in my territory, the concept of which will certainly be intertwined with the traditions of Russian gardening. During the winter I read a lot of works by A.T. Bolotov, I.V. Michurin, studied books on classical English gardening, memoirs of Russian noblemen, read blogs of famous modern park lovers and even became a happy owner of an old book - a guide to gardening for owners of estates. I hope to generalize all this knowledge and apply it competently. But before that, I would like to ask you: how interested are you in homesteading and gardening? Sharing with you your discoveries, findings and bumps?
2. I'll start with my greatest joy - we have an ovary on our lemon tree. After it had almost died under the onslaught of the bark beetle, this is a real victory.
3. buds appeared on it in early February. While the tree is still small, experts recommend leaving the fruit, based on the following ratio: one ovary should have at least 15-20 healthy leaves.
4. To my great regret, I did not have time to take a picture of the lemon during flowering. So I am sharing a picture of my spouse, taken from my phone. These little flowers with snow-white and very dense leaves are incredibly beautiful! And the smell! One such tiny flower can fill an entire room with its fragrance!
5. Pelargoniums have become the object of my special love. In our country they are more often called geraniums.
6. Why geraniums? These plants are not only very beautiful, abundantly blooming and have many varieties, but they are truly estate plants. In the 19th century, these beauties grew in all estates, which is reflected in many paintings.
7. When zoomed in as close as possible, they look like these fluffy things.
8. And this is a maranta. An exotic plant that has the amazing ability to move literally before your eyes, stretching towards the light. I bought the first plant in the store by accident - I really liked the unusual color of its leaves. But observing them, I got into it. Now I have a collection of them, albeit a small one.
9. The first royal pelargonium has bloomed!
10. And this is a real surprise! I think many of you have seen poinsettias being sold in stores before New Year's Eve - more commonly called the "Christmas star" for its amazing ability to blush before Christmas. Our beauty is now in its second year. It is believed to be quite difficult to make them blush at home. But our beauty did it. True, not by January, but by the beginning of March, but it is still an achievement! And this is a real surprise! 11. Some more of the delicate flowers of the royal pelargonium.
12. And this is an anthurium of unusual color. Usually this plant is widespread only in scarlet and white color.
14. My first marantha, or rather - Marantha fascinator tricolor. My favorite, which we affectionately call Terminator. It is located on the place of honor right above my desk and pleases me with its bright coloring.
15. Another marantha is kerhoveana (rabbit's feet).
16. The first pelargonium to appear in our house. Zonal, dwarf, with a delicate peachy-pink color.
18. And there's the marantha again!
19. And another beauty bloomed - crimson!
20. And soon I will show you my plantation with pelargonium seedlings and make a timelapse with marantha. Believe me: you will be very surprised!
